I live in Ontario's snowbelt region, where April showers are sometimes snowfalls. Thankfully, the snowdrops that bloom through the cold and snow are cheery signs that spring's warmth is around the corner. Skirts and cute shoes fly out of the closet despite the residual chill. Inspired by the legwarmers that are popping up in stores, these are meant to make the transition a bit more comfortable.

Material:

5 inch DPN size 4

5 inch DPN size 5

Cable needle

Waste yarn

Tapestry needle

DK weight yarn. I used the now-discontinued Rowanspun DK in Mist.

Sizes

One. It's wise to take place knitting on waste yarn to try on the leg warmer once passed the ribbing. Pattern can be increased in increments of 11 stitches.

Gauge

38 sts/40 rows over 4 inches/10cm in 2x2 rib using US 4 needles.

Stitch instructions

2x2 Rib(Worked in the round over an even number of sts):

Round 1: [K2, p2] to end.

Repeat this round for 2x2 Rib.

C6B= Slip the next 3 sts onto the cable needle and hold at back of work, knit the next 3 sts from the left hand needle, then knit sts from cable needle.

Pattern

(make 2)

Using US 4 needles, cast on 100 sts. Distribute stitches evenly among 3 needles and join to begin working in the round.

Work in 2x2 rib until piece measures 2 ½ inches. (You may now want to transfer stitches to waste yarn to verify fit around calf).

Transfer to US 5 needles, distributing stitches evenly among 3 needles.

K2tog. You should now have 99 stitches.

Row 1: *p2, k1, p2, k6. Repeat from * to end.

Row 2: same as row 1.

Row 3: same as row 1.

Row 4: *p2, k1, p2, CB6. Repeat from * to end.

Repeat rows 1 to 4 until piece measures 14 inches

Transfer to US 4 needles, distributing stitches evenly.

M1. You should now have 100 sts.

Work in 2x2 rib until ribbing measures 2 ½ inches.

Finishing

Bind off. Weave in all ends. Block lightly being careful not to over-stretch width-wise.

This pattern cannot be sold or used for profit.
